Residents of Tinderet Sub-county have launched voluntary road rehabilitation efforts to support government initiatives after heavy rains damaged key roads. Communities in Songhor-Soba, Tinderet Ward, Kaplamai and Meteitei areas have been gravelling roads, clearing drainage systems, filling potholes and constructing temporary water channels to improve transport. Farmers, boda boda riders, women and youth groups joined the exercise to ease movement of people, milk and farm produce to markets. Residents said poor roads had increased transport costs, delayed access to schools and hospitals, and reduced incomes. They urged county and national governments to speed up rehabilitation by providing gravel, culverts and maintenance equipment.

Stakeholders from different government departments and representatives of older people at the  Machakos Institute for the blind, during a three-day stakeholder validation forum on developing a booklet that will create awareness for older people.

As campaigns intensify ahead of the Porro Ward by-election in Samburu West Constituency, scheduled for May 14, 2026, UDA Secretary General Senator Hassan Omar Hassan stepped up efforts to rally support for the party’s candidate, Daniel Lolngojine. Omar said electing Lolngojine would strengthen President William Ruto’s inclusive development agenda and advance the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), aimed at empowering minority and marginalized communities. He urged residents to vote in large numbers to demonstrate confidence in the ruling party. The campaign tour was attended by Digital Health Agency CEO Anthony Lenaiyara, UDA Executive Director Nicodemus Bore, Director of Political Affairs Rob Jillo, and several grassroots party officials supporting the campaign.

Three artisanal miners are feared dead after a goldmine collapsed in Ogago A village, North Sakwa Ward, Bondo Sub-county, on Friday evening. The victims, from neighbouring Rarieda Sub-county, were trapped when the mine shaft they were working in caved in and buried them alive. Resident Boaz Ajuaga said the shaft walls collapsed again at around 3am as rescue efforts were underway to save his brother. Area MCA Oliver Arika, who visited the scene, confirmed that local leaders led by Speaker George Okode had mobilized resources to support the rescue operation. Relatives appealed to county and national governments for assistance in recovering the trapped miners.

Former PCEA Moderator Dr David Githii and Apostle Peter Gitahi of Royal Priesthood Church of Christ in Nyeri yesterday led other clergymen during an interdenominational prayers meeting at Gatumbiro area in Tetu constituency. The clergy decried various vices among them high incidents of suicide, drugs and substance abuse, high crime rates among others in the area and prayed for the area from such calamities. The prayers session that also included cleansing and dedicating to God, some areas that have been hit hard by devilish activities.
