The Democratic Party of Kenya (DP) has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing women’s leadership and expanding Kenya’s presence in global democratic platforms following the participation of Dr. Juliah N. Chege at the International Women’s Democratic Union (IWDU) Global Leaders’ Conference in Morocco.
Dr. Chege, who serves as the party’s National Vice Chairperson in charge of Programs represented the party at the high-profile gathering that brought together influential women leaders, policymakers, and political actors from different parts of the world.
The conference served as an important platform for dialogue and collaboration on issues affecting women’s participation in governance, leadership, and democratic processes.
Delegates exchanged ideas, experiences, and strategies aimed at strengthening women’s inclusion in political and decision-making spaces globally.
During the conference, Dr. Chege participated in a high-level panel discussion alongside Members of Parliament from Europe on the topic, “The Great Debate: Is the West Losing the Global South?; Lessons from Women in Executive Power in Africa.”
In her contribution, Dr. Chege highlighted the critical role African women leaders continue to play in promoting inclusive governance, peacebuilding, and sustainable development across the continent. Her participation underscored Kenya’s growing voice in international democratic conversations and demonstrated the increasing influence of African women in shaping global governance discourse.
The International Women’s Democratic Union is a global association of women politicians drawn from center-right political parties affiliated with the International Democracy Union. The organization is dedicated to promoting women’s political participation, leadership development, and democratic values worldwide.
The party said the conference aligns with its broader vision of empowering women leaders, strengthening democratic institutions, and fostering international partnerships that support leadership, governance, and socio-economic transformation.
It reiterated that creating opportunities for Kenyan women leaders to engage on global platforms remains central to its agenda of promoting inclusive and progressive leadership both nationally and internationally.
