Ruto launches KSh580 million Kajiado projects in pre-election push
Markets, classrooms and a road to the SGR station mark the President’s final day in a county he needs to hold ahead of 2027

President William Ruto yesterday launched a series of infrastructure projects in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County, committing KSh580 million across education, trade and transport in a visit that carried clear electoral undertones eleven months before the August 2027 general election.
Ruto announced that the government would construct 40 additional classrooms at Ongata Rongai Primary School to ease overcrowding, framing the pledge within a national programme to build 23,000 similar facilities across the country. He laid the foundation stone for a KSh210 million modern market designed to accommodate 1,000 traders, and commissioned a KSh70 million market in Rongai already serving 200 traders. He also launched the construction of a KSh300 million, five-kilometre access road linking the town to the Standard Gauge Railway station.
“Under SHA, it is not a must for one to hold a formal job or a payslip to benefit. This programme caters for all without favour,” Ruto told residents, referencing the Social Health Authority, which has registered 740,000 Kajiado residents. He urged residents to remain united.
