The meeting at the former deputy president’s Nyeri home signals the opposition’s most serious attempt yet to build a unified challenge to Ruto
By David Kimani
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua yesterday received Linda Mwananchi leader Edwin Sifuna at his Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri for talks described as focused on “the liberation of our country and the formation of the Sixth Administration.”
Gachagua confirmed the meeting on his social media platforms, saying the discussions were candid and constructive. “Wamunyoro has long been a venue for consequential political consultations that have helped shape a brighter future for our great country,” he said. “Today was such a day.”
The meeting is the clearest signal yet that the two most prominent opposition voices outside the Ukombozi Alliance are coordinating seriously ahead of the August 2027 General Election. With Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka also in the frame as a potential flagbearer, the United Opposition faces its defining test: whether three ambitious principals can subordinate personal interest to collective purpose long enough to mount a credible challenge against an incumbent with every institutional advantage.
Kenya has seen this story before. The difference, this time, may be that all three men know exactly how it ends when it fails.
