Embu gubernatorial candidate Lenny Kivuti from Lower Embu (Mbeere) picks his deputy governor from Upper Embu (Manyatta Constituency) Uniting both lower and upper Embu to a common goal of making Embu County number one once he is sworn him as the second governor Embu county on 10th of august this year.
On other hand, Lenny’s main competitor Cecily Mbarire from Upper Embu (Runyenjes Constituency) picks her deputy from Upper Embu still (Manyatta Constituency) ignoring people from lower Embu (Mbeere) which really shows her tribalism and how she is not care about the lower Embu votes.
From corridors of power, it is not really known how she intends to ensure people from lower Embu votes for a ticket that has secluded them.
It is high time we all us advocate for Unity in Embu County for the first time, we vote in a leader who has started uniting Embu people through giving every region an equal opportunity in his government.
Rise of Fake News in Kenya
By: Mercy Kachenge
The rate at which fake News is spreading across the country ahead of general election has become an issue of concern. The country now is at the peak of politicians campaigning for their seats. Politicians are campaigning countrywide to spread their manifestos or the so called “agenda” as they entice citizens to vote for them come 9th August.
The way at which fake News is spreading is like wildfire in the jungle. The social media platforms has become the source of fake News. Everyone is receiving fake news and spreading it to other people without even verifying it. With doctored videos being fabricated with the intention of ruining reputation of other politicians in favour of their own choice has become a national song.
More so people who are behind this use the logo of certain Media outlets so that people can believe that it is not fake news. As people use these social media sites such as Twitter to tweet and retweet it has common an information of interest. False information and stories are being created with aim changing the mindset of people towards voting for a certain leader. The country now is spearheading with the incoming general election and most people have got a chance to use social platform in a manner they wish to use it.
Over a million of people use WhatsApp to share information and exchange ideas. The manner in which this site is being used has become the typical example a source of fake News. As most of WhatsApp users know each other and whatever information they share with each is always true as they say it not knowing some are fake news.
Creation of fake videos and information is common among the youth who have not been absorbed in the job market as they see this as the only way to get their source of income. Youth are being used as good example in creation of fake news.
Libel and slander are being created everyday with an intention of creating bad image about certain aspirants who are vying for various seats. People tend to believe such defamatory information as they do not have time to verify such news.
Citizens are being encouraged countrywide to be aware of fake news. Social media is a non-governed platform since is does not have editors or to under through check process to determine whether it is fake news or not.
