Kenyan youths are now more informed and engaged in matters of governance compared to two years ago. In the past, many young people avoided politics and governance, often citing it as a dirty game and believing it had no direct impact on their lives. However, there has been a significant shift in mindset, with young people recognizing the importance of being involved in governance and holding leaders accountable for their actions. This revolution for accountability and anti-corruption in the government has been primarily led by the youth, particularly the Gen Zs.

The online revolution, which initially started with simple hashtags, has evolved into a powerful movement that has brought about major reforms in the government. Youths have become vigilant watchdogs, closely monitoring government actions, policies, and decisions made by legislators.  With increased literacy and knowledge about leadership and governance matters, young people are difficult to deceive, and politicians find it challenging to convince them. Politicians now carefully consider how the Gen Zs will perceive their decisions, as they fear being on the wrong side of their opinions.

Looking ahead, it is expected that young people will play a significant role in the upcoming elections, as they are likely to actively participate and even contest for political positions. Their aim is to bring about meaningful reforms in the government system, driven by their determination to combat corruption and promote transparency and accountability.

To gain insights into the online revolution for accountability and corruption in the government, it is essential to involve both experts and young individuals involved in this movement.

Kenya needs to foster culture of transparency and  anti-corruption efforts, enable public scrutiny, and facilitate reporting on corruption.
