Our vanity, our passions, our spirit of imitation, our abstract intelligence, our habits have long been at work, and it is the task of art to undo this work of theirs, making us travel back in the direction from which we have come to the depths where what has really existed lies unknown within us.……………… Marcel Proust, Time Regained.

This sculpture was commissioned by his wife Gertrude Hamilton and is meant to symbolize blindness of justice, its openness for everyone to see and slippery nature in addition its fearlessness.
It has not failed to court controversies as in year 2009 the chairman of Maendeleo ya Wanaume human rights group which lobbies for the protection of boy child petitioned for the statue to be removed arguing that the boy child has become the weaker sex necessitating the need to protect him.
