Junior school learners visited parliament, the courts, the National Archives and KICC yesterday in a trip designed to bring civics education to life.

Eighty-three junior school learners from Bikeke Comprehensive School yesterday toured some of Nairobi’s most significant public institutions, including the National Assembly, the Senate, Milimani Law Courts, the National Archives and the Kenyatta International Convention Centre, as part of a school-organised civic education programme.
The visit was led by senior teacher Verah Katikit, who served as team leader, with class teachers Davis Onchagwa and Annette Khaveye guiding their respective groups throughout the day. They were supported by teachers Gideon Kemboi, Martin Lusweti and Noel Eyauma, who helped manage the learners as they moved through the various venues, including coordinating entry and exit at the National Assembly building.
At parliament, teachers took the opportunity to explain how Kenya’s legislative process works, walking pupils through the roles of both the National Assembly and the Senate in a way that connected classroom civics lessons to the real structures of government.
The tour was organised with the full backing of the school’s head of institution, Ronald Francis Toili Wamalwa, who has been a consistent advocate for educational excursions as a tool for broadening learners’ horizons beyond the classroom.
Bikeke Comprehensive School has built a reputation for investing in leadership development among its pupils, and yesterday’s outing reflected that commitment. For many of the junior school learners, it was their first encounter with the institutions that shape national life — a foundation, the school believes, for nurturing informed and engaged citizens.
