It is written, “For we know that our old self was crucified with Him, so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin ( Romans 6:6 ) . In other words a truly saved person is permanently destroyed to the world and the works of the devil. There is no longer joy in the past life. One thing about divine mercy, that it is inexhaustible, such means that; there is NO way you can frustrate God that when you come to Him, He will reject you!: This is true and great news to those who think they’ve backsliding and can not come back to God.
It is written, “ Moreover, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers were under the cloud, all passed through the sea, all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ. But with most of them God was not well pleased, for their bodies were scattered in the wilderness. Now these things became our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted ( 1 Corinthians 10: 1-6).
We also get inspiration from the life of Moses, who forsook a privilege life, in order to partake in God’s divine will, which included suffering, as we see in Hebrews 11: 24-26 , “By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time. He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward.”
Moses reached a point where he had to make a choice, enjoy the pleasures of Egypt or to follow God’s plan. He discovered he was not wired for that life, his design did not agree with the life of pleasure, thus he chose God. We see the example of people who desire to go back to the old life ( Numbers 11: 1-4). This complaining of people who had been saved out of slavery of Egypt were giving up their God given freedom, instead of following Jehovah into battle. We see in Numbers 14: 1-4 “ That night the people of the community raised their voices and wept aloud, all the Israelites grumbled against Moses and Aaron, and the whole assembly said to them, “ If only we had died in Egypt! Or in this desert! Why is the LORD bringing us to this land only to let us fall by the sword? Our wives and children will be taken as plunder. Wouldn’t be better for us to go back to Egypt? And they said to each other, “We should choose a leader and go back to Egypt.”
Historians record that, “ History repeats itself ”, we see this even in current times where some Christians reach a point where they think the past life of sin, and of bondage would be better than salvation, instead of serving the LIVING GOD! Nevertheless we see people who are sensitive in the spirit and know their God, Numbers 14: 3-7 “ Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.
6 But Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, who were among those who had spied out the land, tore their clothes; 7 and they spoke to all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying: “The land we passed through to spy out is an exceedingly good land. 8 If the Lord delights in us, then He will bring us into this land and give it to us, ‘a land which flows with milk and honey.’ 9 Only do not rebel against the Lord, nor fear the people of the land, for they are our bread; their protection has departed from them, and the Lord is with us. Do not fear them.”
