Philanthropist and Kieni parliamentary aspirant John Kariuki, popularly known as Choromai, has urged farmers across the constituency to take full advantage of the ongoing rainy season, describing it as a critical period for boosting food production and household incomes.
In a message titled “Rainy Season, Our Season to Plant,” Choromai encouraged residents to treat the rains as an opportunity for renewal, calling on farmers to embrace modern farming methods and prioritize food security.
“The rainy season is a season of hope, hard work, and new beginnings. Every seed planted today is an investment in tomorrow’s prosperity,” he said, adding that agriculture remains the backbone of Kieni’s economy.
He further appealed to households to intensify planting efforts as rainfall continues across the country, noting that increased production would strengthen both local food supply and market opportunities.
Choromai, who has been actively engaging residents across Kieni, also reiterated his broader development agenda centered on irrigation, value addition, market access, youth employment, and improved infrastructure.
Under his development blueprint, he has proposed the expansion of irrigation schemes using rivers and medium-sized dams across all eight wards, aimed at reducing dependence on rain-fed agriculture and mitigating drought-related losses.
He has also called for the establishment of value addition industries to process farm produce locally, arguing that this would create jobs and increase earnings for farmers.
“Farmers must benefit more from their sweat. We must process what we produce so that we can retain more wealth within Kieni,” he said in earlier public engagements.
On market access, Choromai has pledged to strengthen linkages between farmers and buyers to ensure stable and fair prices for agricultural products.
He also highlighted job creation for young people as a key pillar of his vision, promising skills development programs and support for entrepreneurship.
Beyond agriculture, Choromai has been touring various parts of Kieni Constituency, meeting residents and inspecting ongoing community projects.
His recent engagements have included visits to local markets, schools, and water projects, where he has emphasized the need for improved roads, expanded electricity coverage, better health facilities, and strengthened social services.
He has positioned his message around unity and development, often repeating his slogan: “One people, one vision, one Kieni.”
“Improved development across Kieni is not a dream; it is achievable through collective effort and focused leadership,” he said.
As political activity gradually intensifies ahead of the 2027 election cycle, Choromai continues to frame his campaign around agricultural transformation and grassroots economic empowerment, urging residents to “plant today and harvest tomorrow.”
