Land grabbing

Worth Noting:
- On the weekend Mr. President Museni noted that district security committees chaired by the RDCS together with the Ministry of Lands will work to solve the land related issues hence reducing land evictions across the country.
- This is likely to increase the land grabbing cases across the country because some of those stakeholders have been helping the land grabbers to take people’s land and others failure totally to resettle the land disputes in their areas because of the army protecting the touchable and others.
- The only solution to end the land related issues in the country is to clean and extend the district land boards to the sub- county levels, put the strong penalties for whoever found supporting the land grabbers and others.
Recently the land grabbing cases are increasing across the country because of the failure by the government of Uganda to address some issues like failure to clean and extend the district land boards to sub –county levels, use of the old land laws to solve land issues yet the demand and value of the land is increasing every day, failure by the government to sweep a big disease of corruption in the land ministry and boards, failure to put the land acquisition bill in the public domain, use of the army and police to protect the an touchable in the land related issues and others.
This vice is commonly in the areas with developments and other natural resource such forests minerals and wetlands especially in Bunyoro sub region and other parts across the country.
Last week the Resident District Commissioner for Kikuube district in Bunyoro where there is a lot of developments take place noted that his office is over wheeled by about 80% of land related issues. He also noted that the people in Hoima, Kikuube and Buliisa are living in fear because of rich men from Bunyoro and Kampala are grabbing their land targeting to do their businesses in the areas where there is oil developments. This is terrible to the vulnerable group of Ugandans commonly known as “Mutu Wawasi’
On the weekend Mr. President Museni noted that district security committees chaired by the RDCS together with the Ministry of Lands will work to solve the land related issues hence reducing land evictions across the country. The only solution to end the land related issues in the country is to clean and extend the district land boards to the sub- county levels, put the strong penalties for whoever found supporting the land grabbers and others . This will reduce the distance of the vulnerable people with land issues, increase the working relationship between the workers and the vulnerable groups of people and enable the public to access justice and at the same time help to create a good discipline among the workers.
In addition to that extension of the district land board to sub county level will reduce corruption among the government officials because the person supporting land grabbers will be identified easily local communities, protect people’s land which is a factor of production and this will contribute to the achievement of government programs like Emooga and Parish Development Model(PDM) which require people to be having a piece of land and will help local communities to have access to the land acquisition bill which enable them to understand the content in side and other.
Therefore, I call on the government of Uganda to clean and extend the district land boards to sub county levels which will reduce the land related issues across the country.
