Yoghurt from the Dairy plant ready for release to the market
The Nyeri National Polytechnic runs a dairy processing plant which was equipped by Canadian government and Ministry of education under Kenya Education for employment Program (KEFEP). The plant began operations two years ago.
Since its commissioning in March 2023, this dairy plant has been instrumental in developing industry relevant skills for the dairy processors. Dairy processing and Food Technology trainees have had an opportunity to interact with state of the art equipment during their training sessions thus improving on their employability.
This facility is certified by KEBS to process yoghurt, cheese and butter for commercial purposes. This has created a business opportunity for micro and small enterprises in the region that buy the processed dairy products. It has also created an employment opportunity for youth engaged at different points along the dairy value chain hence contributing to economic growth and making steps towards the achievement of vision 2030.
The quality of our dairy products has stood out in the market; consumers have demanded more non-conventional flavours such as chocolate and lemon biscuit, With this expansion of the market, rebranding has become inevitable. The new trade name “UNIFIED YOGHURT” speaks into the entrepreneurial spirit of the Polytechnic where commercial wing has a separate branding from the training wing.
