The Departmental Committee on Communication, Information and Innovation chaired by Dagoretti South MP, John Kiarie, has hosted a delegation from the Namibian Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information, Communication, Technology and Innovation. The engagement aimed at providing a platform for knowledge exchange on various areas including best parliamentary practices and provision of WiFi in public institutions.
In his remarks, the Chairperson, John Kiarie highlighted the establishment and mandate of the committee, the activities that the Committee has undertaken towards its role in legislation, oversight and representation. He also recognized the role that the Government, led by H.E the President William Ruto is playing in the ICT space through the Digital Superhighway Agenda.
The Chairperson of the Namibian Parliamentary Committee on Communication, Technology and Innovation Modestus Amutse highlighted to their Kenyan hosts; the Namibian National Assembly Structure, the mandate, and establishment of the committee. He acknowledged the great milestones that Kenya has made in implementing the free WiFi concept, indicating a keen interest to benchmark on what to borrow, and thereafter strategize on how to successfully introduce the model in Namibia.
The morning session drew lots of engagements, experience sharing, as well as comparative analyses of the challenges experienced by both sides on matters ICT and Innovation.
The two Committees recognized the role of such collaborative meetings in enabling successful attainment of ICT and the digital economy work across borders
