Agriculture Cabinet Secretary, Peter Munya yesterday launched an ambitious potato production project in Nyandarua that will see farmers increase their income.
Area Governor Francis Kimemia hosted the minister for the launch of Revitalisation of Irish Potato Production project for Covid-19 affected Small Scale Producers in Nyandarua.
Kimemia said that the action of potato farming with new life and vitality is the best gift for our farmers who have for ages faced exploitation.
“The 40/60 fertilizer subsidy is set to benefit the already 70,000 registered farmers in the County. We urge farmers to continue registering,” said Governor Kimemia.
Farmers training programs will start next week. Munya assured Nyandarua residents of the National Government’s commitment towards reviving the once collapsed pyrethrum sector, saying that seeds and fertilizer will be available before rains start.
The Director General Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) Beatrice Nyamwamu, who accompanied CS Munya, said that the Authority was under obligation to foster the best agricultural practices for maximum food production.
