Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya (3rd left) yesterday visited ongoing government tannery project that is set to change the leather industry in the county.
The CS carried out progress Inspection tour of the Sh 2.2 billion Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP), 2 warehouses for tannery worth Sh695 million and 2 warehouses for manufacturing leather goods worth Sh499 million being undertaken the government in Athi River leather development park within Machakos county.
Once completed, the project will turn around leather industry in the country by among other things promoting value addition.
The leather manufacturing facility will have capacity to produce 10 million shoes per year which net effect will be to boost livestock farmers’ earnings and create employment.
