CSs Have No Choice Other Than To Heed Ruto’s Call To Serve The People Of Kenya

I followed with keen interest what transpired during a three-Day retreat at Fairmont Safari Club in Nyanyuki that brought together cabinet secretaries and other top government officials.
Despite his busy schedule President William Ruto spent all his time there and this clearly demonstrated that he had something burning in his mind which he wanted to communicate to them.
This retreat was being held at a time when many Kenyans were still reeling under the weight of the high cost of living. He was fully aware of this and looking at his body language, the President wanted the officials to know this.
We’re not here for joyriding or luxury adventures.
In his speeches, he minced no word in stating. We are here to look for ways of returning our economy back on track so that we ease the public burden.
The positions we are holding, we owe them to Kenyans. They entrusted us with leadership because they believed in us. The time of politics is over. This is the time to deliver.
As cabinet secretaries, you are required to uphold the rule of collective responsibility.
This means you should work as a team and the same case apply to those serving under you.
If you don’t know something, come to me or ask your cabinet colleague.
No one knows everything and so don’t fear they will say you don’t understand your job.
Even me I consult widely, Dr Ruto observed.
For the other two arms of the government, they are supposed to embrace the same spirit.
Once again, Dr Ruto rightly stated. The work of serving the people cannot be done by one person. All of us as state officers must perform our respective role in a professional and efficient manner.
It should be noted that the President has also been pushing for the creation of the Office of the Opposition Leader.
This shows he is a strong believer in democracy and rule of law.

For now, the Azimio leaders have only one option: To swallow their pride and stick to thier lane of opposition.
I want to say this. A responsible opposition worth salt is supposed to engage the government in a structured and constructive dialogue and criticism.
The call for mass demonstration can only come as a last resort.
This is when all the channels of dialogue have been exhausted and failed.
