DEPRESSION: A REAL CAUSE OF CONCERN

Mental health is important for the person of every age. Our mental health depends on many factors like our eating habits, environment one lives, the daily routine we follow and many other things.  Depression is increasing day by day in our society and chronically it remains fatal for one’s health. It is now common in all age groups. Everyone is depressed somehow in one way or another.

Every person always concentrates on their physical health and ignores mental health which could be developing as mental illness. Depression could be fatal depressive mental disorder that is seen in of every age but nowadays youth are suffering more from depression.

According to World Health Organization at total number of people living with depression in a world is 32 million nearly half of these people live in South Asia reason and western pacific region which includes India and China. In low-income countries such as India, unemployment is a major cause of depression. It is more common among females (5.1%) than males (3.6%).

Depression carries anxiety. It is globally estimated that 4.4% of global population suffers from depressive disorder and 3.6% from anxiety disorder. Ayurveda is an ancient science, has effective treatment of depression also known as “Manovasada” in Ayurveda.  Ayurvedic treatment along with psychological counseling is beneficial in depression.

Panchkarma (shodhan shamn), satwavjya chikitsa(counseling, Yo ga,meditation) are helpful in management of depression.
