The use of plastic bags were initially banned in Kenya in 2017 by NEEMA.2022 marks the 5th year down the line after being declared as illegal product. Plastics bags were used for various purpose to serve the customers especially by the vendors who sale vegetables.
After using them they were not well disposed. As plastic bags are non-biodegradable material in that it does not decompose upon using it and therefore has created a bad image to the country.
A lot of it has been poorly disposed. In 2017, the government put measures to curb the use of plastic bags in the country.
Stringent rules were put in place for those culprits that were still using it as those found were being fined heavily. Many citizens across the country tried to adhere with rules as it had become difficult to adopt the traditional of using plastic bags since it had gained a lot of popularity in the country.
The use of plastic bags reduced totally across the streets and any person that was found with were dealt accordingly by NEEMA. Industries that produced it reduced the amount of producing and even to an extent of stopping the process of producing.
Today in Kenya, plastic bags have embarked on the streets as most of the traders try not to be caught up using it making it to gain a lot of popularity.
Many business people say that the government has not opted out another method in exchange of plastic bags. Though plastic bags is being allowed in the country illegal even after putting rules, business people as still looking for other means to obtain it in order to use them in their daily business activity.
Therefore with the rise of plastic bags gaining to the market, a summit is being held in order to provide alternative method on how to deal with it.
