Dr Philp Nyanumba, has been elected the third Speaker for Kisii County Assembly.

The county assembly seat attracted 14 candidates who vied for the position.

Dr Nyanumba garnered 47 votes against his close competitor, former nominated member of Kisii County assembly, Eric Janganya who got 21 votes during the exercise presided over by County Assembly Clerk, James Nyaoga.

Earlier, the Clerk swore 71 Members of the Assembly- 45 elected and 26 nominated to the Assembly.

The Speaker, who replaced former Speaker David Kombo, pledged to work with the Executive to deliver services for the residents.

He was a former Finance Officer in Nyamira County.

He adjourned the House and will resume on Tuesday 4 next month.

He vied for Bomachoge Borabu parliamentary seat and lost in this year’s poll.

A section of Member of the county Assembly said that they have all the hopes that the speaker will perform

Members of the Assembly- Stephen Arika ( Ibeno) Ward and Wilfred Monyenye ( Kisii central) said the election was free and fair and urged their colleagues to work together to enhance development in the county.

Monyenye implored the governor to work closely with the Members of the Assembly to plan the county’s urban areas to enhance service delivery.

Janganya appealed to the Members of the Assembly to execute their mandate of oversight, legislation and representation.

He also asked them to keep the county on toes to bring more development.

For equal distribution of  power within the six clans in Kisii County , the  Governor hails from ( ABabasi),  Deputy Governor  (Abanyaribari), Kisii County  woman member of the National Assembly (Abanchari), Senator(Abagetutu) speaker (Bomachoge and the County  Secretary seat is expected to  be reserved   for Abagirango.
