Light Up Hope introduced a school feeding programme in Kajiado County in 2022 to address the issue of children dropping out of school due to a prolonged drought.
The programme, which was introduced in 210 public primary schools, supported 79,000 pupils by offering lunch.
This balanced diet improves their overall nutrition and health. Since its introduction, enrollment in public primary schools in Kajiado County has steadily increased, from 84% in 2022 to 97% in 2024.
The organisation is education-focused, recognising that hungry children cannot focus in class.
In addition to the feeding programme, Light Up Hope offers educational scholarships for bright and needy learners, from primary school to university.
Light Up Hope aims to alleviate poverty in Kenya and currently supports 260 girls in high schools and 100 university students on full scholarships, primarily from underprivileged families.
These girls are rescued from early marriages and given a chance to continue their education.
