Former Councillors in Kisii and Nyamira Counties decry delay of their pension after senators assembly approved their pension ask government for intervention

Former representatives of county and municipal councils from Kisii and Nyamira counties have decried delay in payment of their pension and send-off package by the government.
The councilors, who served in different terms since independence and before devolution, claim that they did not get any sendoff package or pension like the case with members of parliament and Members of the County Assemblies.
In 2018, the Senate approved a motion to give the former councillors sendoff perks up to now they have not received any pension.
In a statement read by John Onchiri on behalf of the councilors, said that the government should hasten in giving out their report, detailing how the councilors will be paid.
They said that the government should put the former councillors under pension scheme.
The councillor said that the government should hear their grievances before the formation of the new government.
Mr Onchiri stated that during their time they used to be paid allowances but not salary like the current members of county assemblies.
Paul Nyamweya during their time they served in municipal and county councils and they brought a lot of development as many towns were constructed out of their efforts.
“Unfortunately, we were forgotten after devolution took place,” he added.

Mr Omari asked the president to ensure that they release their pension like he did to the member of the county assembly.
“The councillors play a big critical role in the society , ” he said .
West Mugirango Aspirant Stephen Mogaka under Jubilee party said that they will push and ensure that the councillors have been paid their pension.
On politics the councillors said that they rally behind Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance and ensure that they vote behind Raila Odinga.
They also asked the new government to retain the positions of the leaders who are in the government led by CS Interior Fred Matiang’i .
The councilors urged the politicians to conduct peaceful election and avoid divisive politics.
They also pleaded to the electorates to vote for visionary leaders.
