Central Organization of Trade Union (COTU)  Secretary General Francis Atwoli has criticised Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for fighting against his boss president William Ruto.

Speaking in Nairobi on Monday, September 23, Atwoli asked Gachagua to stop outshining the president. According to Atwoli, the DP position should be an appointment by the president and not a running mate.

“The deputy president should an appointee of the president and not a running mate, because as a running mate, they feel as if they are also the president. We cannot have two presidents,” Atwoli said.

Atwoli called out Gachagua for politicking on top of cars and misleading the country, while the president is out of the country on an official visit in New York in the United States. He called for the arrest of the DP.

According to him, the DP is contradicting the president and the government he’s part of.

“President William Ruto is out of the country, and he is on top of his car as the president, misleading people and misguiding the nation. He must be arrested. You cannot be contradicting your own government, and everything. A DP is supposed to be silent and speak when needed,” Atwoli said.

He is the latest high profile in the country to hit out at Gachagua following his revelations on Friday during an exclusive interview with Citizen Television on Friday, September 20.

His remarks come when Tana River senator Danson Mungatana has filed a motion of notice before the Senate to censure Gachagua over his conduct since he assumed his office as the deputy president of the republic of Kenya.

According to Mungatana notice, Gachagua has made utterances regarding employment opportunities to Kenyans, allocation of resources to counties and incitement of a section of Kenyans to disobey lawful directives from county governments.

Additionally, he accused the DP for marginalizing a section of Kenyans, which has created high tension among different ethnic communities across the country, which contravenes Article 75 of the constitution, which are against the national values and principles of governance.
