Francis Mutuku, the current Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) and Vice President of Tennis Kenya, has officially announced his candidacy for the NOCK presidency for the 2025-2028 term. Running under the campaign theme “Born to Serve,” Mutuku is positioning himself as a leader dedicated to strengthening Kenya’s sports landscape.
A seasoned sports administrator with extensive experience in governance and policy, he has been instrumental in NOCK’s transformation over the years. His tenure has been marked by financial stability, increased international partnerships, and improved support structures for athletes.
“My daily motivation is that there is always something I can do to make an impact in someone’s life. Serving in the National Olympic Committee of Kenya as the Secretary General has been a profound honor. The great Kenyan champions I have interacted with, working with the ambitious young athletes filled with dreams, engaging with the leaders and lovers of sports and the many people who have spared their precious time to talk to me, all have continually inspired me to greatness of service,” said Mutuku
He further stated that his main commitment is to foster a system where athletes thrive, federations are empowered, and Kenya solidifies its position as a global sporting powerhouse.
“My main commitment is to focus on areas like a high Performance Center, training resources and equipment, strategic Utilization of sports scholarships, structuring of NOCK Scholarships youth Development, strategic Games preparation & participation, coaches and referees Education & Development, training and Facility Exchange Programs, and also hosting of Games in Kenya,” added Mutuku.
Having served alongside outgoing president Paul Tergat, Mutuku aims to build upon the foundation of stability and progress that has characterized NOCK in recent years,focusing on establishing clear development pathways, securing university scholarships, and enhancing safeguarding initiatives for athletes.
“I will secure strengthen high-performance training programs, expanding scholarship opportunities, and ensuring Team Kenya is well-prepared for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, enhance governance structures, supporting federations, and integrating sports tourism and diplomacy and also Elevate Team Kenya’s brand, increasing sponsorships, and driving new revenue streams through strategic partnerships,” continued to say Mutuku
Serving as Secretary General of ANOCA Zone V, representing 11 African nations, his experience includes, grassroots sports development, policy formulation and governance reforms within Kenya’s sports sector
“With my experience, i promise is to serve with integrity, vision, and dedication. Together, we will build a future where Kenyan athletes and sports organizations thrive globally,” he affirmed
The Tennis governing body where he is currently serving as the duty president, rallied behind him for serving Kenya in different capacities for over two decades .
“Francis is a proven leader with a track record of building collaborations, driving sports development, and implementing policies that benefit athletes and federations alike,” said Kenya Tennis Federation president James Kenani.
Beyond sports administration, Mutuku has a strong corporate background, holding a Bachelor’s degree in Business & Economics from Kenyatta University, his early career saw him excel in the insurance industry.
“Recognizing the intersection of business and sports, I transitioned into private sports business, specializing in event management and sponsorship acquisition. I have successfully led and collaborated on high-profile sporting events, including Kenya Open Golf Tournament, Safari 7s and Rugby Super Series, Rugby Victoria and Elgon Cups, Mombasa International Festival, First Lady Marathon and Sports Expo,” he added.
With elections approaching, his campaign promises to focus on elevating Kenyan sports to new heights, ensuring athletes receive the support they need to excel on the world stage.
