Three Ways Boda-Boda Self-Help Group, established three years ago in the Gilgil area of Nakuru County, has significantly improved the lives of its members by enabling 25 members to own plots in the Langalanga area.
The group aims to curb the many challenges experienced by motorcycle operators, such as road accidents, personal health emergencies, or the deaths of close relatives.
Andrew Oroba, the chairman of the group, explains that the group was inspired by the many challenges faced by motorcycle operators and wanted to create something that would unify them and benefit all of them.
The group started by saving for some time and eventually decided to purchase a two-acre land worth Sh2 million and divide it among its members.
With 25 members already owning a plot, they are in the process of purchasing an additional 2 acres of land.
To counter the financial challenges faced by members, the group formed a saving and loan project that allows them to save and take loans at lower interest rates.
Every member is expected to contribute Sh50 daily to be deposited in the bank as a share, which is then loaned to any member with an emergency issue.
Another project carried out by the Three Ways Sacco Group is welfare, which supports members who are admitted to hospitals or have lost a loved one and has enabled them to register for the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) cover through another daily contribution of Sh50.
Thirty-year-old Wilfred Nyamari, one of the group’s members, is excited to be a member and envisions owning a parcel of land in Langalanga.
