Githunguri Member of Parliament, Gathoni Wamuchomba, has issued a heartfelt and impassioned appeal to President William Ruto, urging him to address rising concerns over abductions and alleged extrajudicial killings. In her statement, the outspoken legislator emphasized the importance of respecting the Constitution and upholding the rule of law, particularly in handling matters involving young Kenyans who have strayed from the right path.
“Dear Mr. President, we have heard your clarion call to us, parents, to care for and watch over our children. I agree wholeheartedly,” she said. “But when they go astray, we expect them to be disciplined within the correctional facilities provided by the Constitution of Kenya. These are places where parents can visit, counsel, and rehabilitate their children—not where we are forced to search for them in mortuaries and dams.”
Wamuchomba, speaking as a mother and a leader, implored the President to release individuals allegedly abducted and ensure they are subjected to due legal processes. She reminded the President that leading by example and adhering to constitutional principles is essential for fostering public trust.
“As a parent, you should set the right precedent by following the Constitution and abiding by the rule of law,” she said.
The MP also highlighted the existing legislative framework, citing the 2018 Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act, which provides robust mechanisms for addressing and regulating digital activities. She condemned abductions and extrajudicial actions, warning that such measures only serve to alienate the public and erode confidence in the government.
“Abductions are an aggravating action that drives people against your government. Give Kenyans room to breathe as we usher in the New Year,” she concluded.
Wamuchomba’s bold statement underscores her unwavering commitment to justice, human rights, and constitutional governance. It is a call to action for leaders to uphold the principles that safeguard the freedoms and dignity of every Kenyan.
