Kenya is putting the final touches on its preparations to host the 2024 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) as senior officials toured the key venues and entry points during the tournament.
Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, the Creative Economy, and Sports, Salim Mvurya, together with the Principal Secretary for Sports, Elijah Mwangi, led an inspection of the Moi International Sports Centre (Kasarani), Nyayo National Stadium, and Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Speaking at Kasarani Stadium, Mvurya expressed satisfaction with the pace of work and praised the teams involved for staying on schedule. He noted that the stadium will be ready to host major fixtures, including matches featuring the Harambee Stars and the tournament’s final showdown.
“I’m pleased with what I’ve seen so far. The progress is impressive and reflects strong teamwork between the Confederation of African Football, the Local Organizing Committee, and the Football Kenya Federation,” he stated.
At Nyayo Stadium, the Cabinet Secretary confirmed that the venue is prepared to stage group matches and is ready to welcome fans from across the continent.
“Safety remains a top priority. The National Disaster Management Unit, together with St. John Ambulance and other partners, will be on standby to handle any emergencies during the championship,” the Sports CS remarked.

The team also toured Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to check the country’s capacity to receive teams and fans smoothly. Mvurya said the Kenya Airports Authority and the Local Organizing Committee have put measures in place to manage the arrival of guests.
“Designated areas are ready to receive delegations. Transport has been arranged to ensure teams and visitors reach their hotels and training grounds without delay,” he affirmed.
With just two days to go, Kenya is counting down the days to a championship that promises to bring football fans together and showcase the country’s ability to host major continental events.
