Government Confirms Tragic Dormitory Fire at Hillside Private Mixed Primary School, Endarasha

Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has Aconfimed a devastating fire erupted in a dormitory at Hillside Private Mixed Primary School in Endarasha, Kieni Sub County, late Thursday night, claiming the lives of 17 students and injuring at least 14 others. The blaze, which broke out around midnight, engulfed the dormitory housing boys from Grades 4 to 8.
A total of 156 students were residing in the dormitory at the time of the incident. Emergency services are still working to determine the final number of casualties.
“Its with deep sorrow we confirm the tragic incident,. The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the County Government Health Department, is on-site providing immediate medical care to the injured, who have been transported to Mathari Mission Hospital and Nyeri County Referral Hospital.” Stated Mwaura
In response to the disaster, the government through Mwaura has confirmed that a comprehensive relief effort has been launched.
“ Special Programs is providing 50 bags of rice, 50 bags of beans, 100 mattresses, and 100 blankets, set to arrive at the school today . The Pankaj Foundation has donated 50 first aid kits, which will be delivered via the Office of the Deputy President, and MP Shah Hospital is sending additional medical supplies.” He continued to say
In addition, Recognizing the psychological trauma inflicted on the victims, families, and school staff, he noted that the Kenya Red Cross is offering critical counseling services, Red Cross and Special Programs are also coordinating the delivery of extra tents, blankets, and medical supplies for those affected.
He further emphasized the government’s unwavering support for the victims and the school community.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families, students, and staff affected by this tragic incident. The government is working closely with the Ministry of Education, the Red Cross, and other key stakeholders to provide all necessary assistance during this difficult time.” Mwaura Said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
