Tharaka Nithi County governor Muthomi Njuki made the State Of The County address yesterday where he attributed the growth in revenue to prudent use of public resources.
The governor said his administration had enhanced surveillance on revenue loopholes, making the county to feel the impact of own revenue collected.
According to the governor who made the address at the area County Assembly chambers, revenue collection in the last six years has grown by 257 per cent, a bigger percentage being in the last year.
Governor Njuki, who is serving his second term as governor, said revenue collection when he took office was at KSh79 million but has grown over the time and was now approaching KSh250 million, with projections of about KSh350 million by the end of the next financial year.
While insisting on the need to collect more, Njuki noted the credit worthiness of the county would improve if more revenue was collected, thus opening up space for more disbursement from the National Government in equitable share.
The governor however noted that there has been no increase in levies for traders, only tightening loopholes that may result in pilferage.
The governor also noted his administration’s efforts in enhancing the health docket, insisting he was in the process of upgrading some Level III hospitals to Level IV in an effort to decongest queues at level at the Level V hospital.
