The State Department for Livestock Development is set to conduct a survey of livestock household resources in 39 counties to assess the status of the sector.
The results will be used by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics to formulate a national livestock master plan to drive the sector forward.
Ward Livestock Development Officers and other stakeholders will visit villages in the 39 livestock-producing counties to identify and enumerate livestock-keeping households.
The exercise aims to create a repository for livestock data for effective planning in the sector. Each county will develop a county master plan to guide the interventions required to take the sector to the next level.
The masterplans will inform policy and development initiatives in the livestock sector at both national and county levels.
The data will be crucial for improving meat and milk production through breeding programmes, artificial insemination, disease control programmes, and vaccination services.
