Ijara MP Abdi Ali Abdi has called on President William Ruto to make a tour to Northern Kenya and address pertinent issues affecting the pastoralist communities.
Speaking to the media yesterday at his Constituency, Mr Abdi said the President should take time and embark on a development tour to the Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) parts of the country.
The lawmaker said the region overwhelmingly supports Dr Ruto’s leadership and is expecting him to visit soon.
“We have confidence in the leadership of President Ruto. I am therefore requesting him (Dr Ruto) to tour Northern Kenya and address issues affecting the region,” Mr Abdi said.
“We want the pastoralist communities in the ASAL counties to share to him directly their interests so that they can also tap development from his administration,” he added.
Parts of Northern Kenya have over the years experienced severe drought and flooding, inter-ethnic tensions, proliferation of arms and cattle rustling.
Mr Abdi, who is a member of the Kenya Kwanza coalition, lauded the Head of State for forming a broad-based government by reconstituting his Cabinet.
He said the country is geared towards economic development and that Kenyans are on the right path of gaining prosperity in Dr Ruto’s new administration.
“We support the President for forming a broad-based government because his wise decision has toned down divisive politics and impacted peace and tranquility in the country. As a member of the Kenya Kwanza coalition, I will continue supporting our President in implementing his development agenda,” Mr Abdi said.
“We now expect the government to address various issues affecting Kenyans so as to achieve prosperity as a people,” he added.
The MP was elected in 2022 on the National Agenda Party of Kenya which is affiliated to Azimi coalition. But after the polls, Mr Abdi decamped from Azimio and joined President Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza coalition.
