Improper services in public hospitals 1

On my visit to Kitere dispensary, Rongo Sub County on 23rd March 2020 for 3 hours, I keenly observed how services were being provided. Once you look at the hospital from far, it indicates that normal duties are going on as any other hospital. Doors are wide open, patients are busy moving in and out and you can also hear children screaming from far.
Once you make a step inside, you will be shocked to find out that what you were expecting is irrelevant to you might see. Some nurses are busy gossiping in their locked rooms while some are busy on their phones, some patients are sadly waiting for directions at the waiting benches, some children are lying sideways screaming and vomiting and some patients who get tired of waiting are moving outside the dispensary. I was lucky to interact with one of the patients and held a talk with her briefly.
“It is not the first time this has happened, we usually take more than 2 hours to be directed on what to do. Most of the time, we are told that nurses are in the meeting. This happens mostly from noon (12pm) onwards. It’s not easy to get served,” She stated.
I had sat at the waiting bench for 1 hour, 20 minutes as one of the patients without being given any direction too. It is advisable that nurses should understand that they are dealing with people facing different health complications.
All nurses are well trained to cater for patients. Why should they end up providing inappropriate services? Why should they should they leave patients at the waiting benches for more than 2 hours unattended to? And if it is a meeting, why should it be conducted during working hours? Sometimes, it is not all about having a job to earn a living; it is all about being human.
