Foundation For Dialogue (FFD), a Non-Governmental organisation says the country can only thrive if insecurity is addressed to create conducive environment for all.
The organization’s Director Dr Michael Mugo says insecurity is the single most vice that contributes to lack of enough resources and hence lagging behind of the country.
Thus, his organization formed a multisectoral forum that has been devising various ways of ensuring that the issue is addressed.
Through the FFD initiative, the forums have seen leaders and representatives from all sectors meet and deliberate on the best way forward.
They concentrate on serious security lapses like radicalization of Kenyans who eventually joins groups that carry out massive destruction of property and lives.
One such forum is Nyeri County Engagement Forum on Prevention and Countering Violent Extremism.
This forum, co-chaired by the County Commissioner and Governor organizes events where different leaders meet over a certain agenda and interact in a bid to relief stigma which makes some stakeholders to shy from availing crucial information.
Such an event took place yesterday in Tetu constituency where stakeholders met and played interactive Volleyball game.
Those who took part included officials from the National Government Administration, National Police Service, Kenya Wildlife Service, Elders who are members of Kiama Kia Ma, Nyumba Kumi officials, Traders, Taxi operators, Bodaboda guys, Mechanics , County Enforcement officers, Car wash guys and People Living With Disabilities.
The games were held at Giakanja Trading Centre and attracted hundreds of local people who freely interacted with the government officers who played their games in their full and official uniforms.
After the event, the leaders of each group led by Administrative officer, office of the County Commissioner Fred Mwangangi called on citizens to always report incidents of insecurity or suspicious activities without fear.
Dr Mugo and the officers noted that although Nyeri has not been hit by terrorists, it is known to be a radicalization hub which they were addressing by among other things, holding such events and meeting young people who are always targeted for recruitment and sensitising them on the dangers of involving themselves in crime.
So far, the forum has organized such events in Kieni East Sub-County and Nyeri Central with a hope of taking them to the other areas.
