International Day of Older Persons Celebrated In Style In Nyeri County

The United Nations International Day of Older Persons was marked yesterday across the world.
In Nyeri, the day was marked at Wamagana stadium in Tetu constituency in an event that was organized by the Purity Elderly Care Foundation and Tetu Constituency Member of Parliament Geoffrey Wandeto.
The founder of the Foundation Joyce Wanjiku Kairu said this is the 13th such celebration being hosted by her organisation in the county.
This year’s theme is ‘Resilience of Older Persons in a Changing World.’
It was a fun day for the aged who shared meal, drinks and made merry during the celebrations.
Wanjiku called for the young to respect and ensure dignity for the senior citizens in the country.
She also appealed to the national government to release stipends for the elderly on time.
The event was also attended by the National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC) led by Vice Chairperson Dr Chomba Munyi and Commissioner Dr Margaret Karungaru.
The foundation joined hands with the area MP Hon. Geoffrey Wandeto who provided the venue and tents while Aberdare Country Club also provided lunch for the participants.
