The national government officials through the Inua Jamii Mashinani initiative yesterday engaged residents of Mutyambua in Makueni county on key development programmes being carried out by President William Ruto’s administration.

Public Health and Professional Standards Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni who is the convenor of the initiative said the forum, held under the grassroots participation platform is aimed at directly involving citizens in shaping development priorities that improve livelihoods and service delivery.
She noted that at yesterday’s forum venue, some of the priority projects include plans to operationalise the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Mutyambua Campus and strengthen Mutyambua Sub‑County Hospital.
“The operationalisation of KMTC Mutyambua Campus will provide a 10-classroom tuition block and a 340-bed hostel, creating opportunities for young people to pursue careers in healthcare close to home,” PS Muthoni said, adding, “Meanwhile, the Mutyambua Sub-County Hospital will be upgraded and equipped under the National Equipment Support Programme (NESP), enhancing access to quality healthcare services.”
Residents were also briefed on other ongoing projects, including the Affordable Housing project in Wote, modern market developments in Wote and Kathonzweni, support for farmers through subsidised fertiliser programmes, and the Emali–Matiliku road construction project.
The forum saw participation from officials of key agencies, including Winfrida Ngumi (KeNHA), Peter Muchendu (Konza Technopolis), Kieru Wa Wamboi (KIMC), Patrick Mwangi (Housing), and Ministry of Health representatives such as Adan Harakhe (SA) and Dr. Kelly Oluoch, CEO-KMTC, among others.
Inua Jamii Mashinani is a government-led public engagement initiative that brings senior officials; Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, and agency heads and directors as well as other senior government officials to the grassroots to interact with citizens directly.
Its main objectives are to gather citizen input, track government responses, strengthen transparency and accountability, and ensure development projects meet local needs. The programme has previously held forums in various counties, giving residents a platform to influence service delivery and development priorities as they sensitize them on President Ruto’s track record.
By combining dialogue with tangible development interventions, the initiative ensures that projects such as KMTC campuses, hospital upgrades, infrastructure works, and social welfare programmes are aligned with community needs. The Makueni engagement marks another step in deepening citizen participation while promoting sustainable development and improved public services in the county.
