Azimio La Umoja women leaders want Narc-Kenya leader Martha Karua named Raila Odinga’s presidential running mate in the for the coming general elections.
Led by Kitui Governor Charity Kaluki Ngilu, the women drawn from 26 different political parties said time has come for a woman to be considered for second highest ranking office in the country.
Women leaders were speaking yesterday at the Jacaranda Hotel in Westlands, Nairobi County where they unanimously agreed on the push to have Karua named as a running mate.
Youth and Gender Affairs Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Rachel Shebesh who spoke during the meeting said Martha is a committed woman, who is known for integrity and resoluteness. She said as women league of Azimio La Umoja they are going to start that serious conversation that shall lead to Martha Karua deputizing Raila Odinga.
Shebesh said they have opted for Karua because she is an experienced leader who had a proven track record in her service delivery to Kenyans.

Last month when accepting to back Odinga’s presidential bid, Karua said the Azimio leader has a demonstrated track record of being selfless and putting the interest of the nation above his.
“I am here to confirm that from now onwards Narc Kenya and I are supporting the Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga and this is without any equivocation. I have said time and again, and NARC-Kenya believes in this, that as we move forward we must look for leaders who have a demonstrated track record of being selfless and putting the interest of the nation above theirs.”
Nairobi Governor Ann Kananu while vouching for Karua said time is ripe for a fifty-fifty government where women will have equal share as their men counterpart in the next government.
Karua’s name come while Wiper leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka has been insisting on being ODM leader Raila Odinga’s running mate for the third time. Also Maendelo Chap Chap leader Dr. Alfred Mutua has been eyeing to deputise Raila.
Another highly audible name in race to deputise Odinga is former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth.
