JFPK Issues Public Statement on Upholding Constitutional Rights and Supporting Victims of Violations

The Justice and Freedom Party of Kenya (JFPK) has released a public statement, reaffirming their commitment to upholding the constitutional rights of all Kenyans and standing in solidarity with victims of rights violations. The statement, delivered by the party’s leader and the Secretary General, emphasized the necessity of protecting civil liberties and ensuring justice for all citizens.
In their address, the JFPK condemned recent incidents of rights violations, highlighting specific cases where individuals and communities have faced unlawful treatment. The party called on the government and relevant authorities to take immediate action to address these injustices and to hold accountable those responsible for perpetrating these violations.
The JFPK underscored the importance of adhering to the principles enshrined in the Kenyan Constitution, which guarantees the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms. Call for Remedial Action:
In their statement they called upon the several actions to be taken to restore constitutional order and ensure Justice for the victims:
Independent Investigations
Immediate and independent investigations into the deaths and Injuries caused by police actions, as well as the abductions and torture, must be conducted. The Findings should be made public, and those responsible must be held accountable.
Judicial Intervention.
The Judiciary should urgently address these violations and ensure that the rule of law prevails. The courts must protect the constitutional rights of all citizens and provide redress for the victims.
Parliamentary Oversight.
They call upon Parliament to exercise its oversight role over the Executive and the Kenya Police Service. Legislative measures should be put in place to prevent such violations in the future and to strengthen the protection of human rights.
Police Reforms.
Comprehensive reforms within the Kenya Police Service are necessary to address issues of brutality, accountability, and adherence to human rights standards. Training on non-violent methods of crowd control and respect for human rights must be prioritized.
Dialogue and Engagement.
They urge the government to engage in constructive dialogue with the demonstrators and address their grievances regarding the Finance Bill 2024 through peaceful and democratic means.
They concluded with a call to action for all Kenyans to remain vigilant and to actively participate in the defense of their constitutional rights. The JFPK reaffirmed its dedication to advocating for justice and freedom, pledging to continue its efforts to promote and protect the rights of every Kenyan.
