By: Patrick Juma
Relating what is taught in class with the outside world paints one an intellect. This is what English and Literature third year students of Kaimosi Friends University made the world aware of, between 23rd and 25th of March days which were some of the busiest in the University calendar.
That was the week the University was appreciating her roots, the roots of her people, showing the world the beautiful side of mother Africa. On 23rd, the literature students brought a smile to the Governor of Vihiga County with their colourful performance of songs from different communities.
With Patrick Juma the Author of I Will Marry Awilo and a co-author of A Walk Before Darkness, Ferdinand Mulati, Vane Otara, Lasoi, Sharon Kerindo and Jasmin Achieng’ as soloists, the group danced to their level best. Tyson Owundo and John Kagwe’s dance moves left Governor Otichilo clapping. The whole crowd was moved when Dr. Nyambane, their lecturer joined in singing.
All windows were closed by the heads that tried to accord their eyes access to the stage. Professor Nandi, the head of the institution, could not hide his happy side. Ululations ruled the air as they were leaving the stage.
Tamasha games kicked off on 23rd. Ultimate Frisbee, one of the newest games in the University and the Country was played on 24th. It was a show the history of Kaimosi University will live to remember. The University head of sports, Mr. Sandagi and Paul the head of hockey were forced to join team C and team D respectively. Team Chaos (Team C), one of the four Utlimate Frisbee University teams carried the day after scoring team Dreamers (Team D) thirteen against eleven.
“I believe anything can be achieved as long as we put our focus to what we want” Said Diagracious the captain of Team C. Other games including Football, Hockey and Badminton were also played.
On 25th, Getrude Ogada, one of the third year Literature students was crowned Miss KAFUCO after defeating nine other contestants. The same literature class is a home to the 2019/2020 Miss Curvy, the University’s student MC Eugine and Non_resident representative Omete Emmanuel. The group is led by Winnie Akinyi.
