Listed superfoods grower and exporter Kakuzi Plc has announced the appointment of Ms Pamella Ager as an Independent Director to enhance its Corporate Governance and board diversity standards.
An advocate of the High Court of Kenya, Ms Ager is a widely experienced Corporate Legal practitioner who also serves as the Managing Partner at Oraro & Company Advocates, one of the leading law firms in the country.
Speaking when he confirmed her appointment as an Independent Board member and Director, Kakuzi Plc Chairperson Nicholas Ng’ang’a said Ms Ager effectively joined the Board on April 1 as part of the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) listed firm’s commitment to boost the Board’s diversity.
“Over the years, Kakuzi Plc has been actively working to adopt world-class corporate governance standards. We have made commendable progress by adopting several operating policies,” Ng’ang’a said.
He added, “As we welcome Ms Ager, I am confident that the Board will greatly benefit from her wealth of experience, counsel and contributions as we seek to steer Kakuzi to greater heights.”
Ms Ager holds a First Class Honours Masters of Law Degree from Auckland University and a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Waikato in Hamilton, New Zealand.
She also holds a diploma from the Kenya School of Law.
A member of the Institute of Directors (Kenya), she is also a member of the Law Society of Kenya, Federation of Women Lawyers, East African Law Society and Commonwealth Lawyers Association. She sits on various boards for education and non-profit organisations.
Kakuzi PLC is a listed Kenyan superfoods producer on the Nairobi and London Stock Exchange, engaging in the cultivation, processing and marketing of avocados, blueberries, macadamia, tea, livestock and commercial forestry.
The firm continuously strive to build a sustainable agricultural portfolio that can mitigate weather risks to which the sector has historically been subjected. Its development plans are in full swing, with significant additional areas of avocado and macadamia being planted, with initial trials for blueberry development starting at the end of 2018.
