Worth Noting:

Wiper Democratic Movement leader Kalonzo Musyoka has made explosive claims, accusing President William Ruto of being the Chief Commander behind the alleged abduction squads operating in Kenya. Musyoka’s statement follows revelations by Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi, who detailed the abduction of his son, Leslie Muturi, on June 22, 2024, during a press conference last Sunday.

Muturi, who was serving as the Attorney General at the time of his son’s abduction, expressed shock at the lack of answers despite being a senior government official and a member of the National Security Council.

The Cabinet Secretary’s plea for justice underscored concerns about the government’s failure to provide information on the whereabouts of abducted individuals, including his own son.

In his statement, Muturi directly implicated President Ruto, describing how Ruto’s intervention via a phone call to the National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director General Noordin Haji—led to the swift release of his son, suggesting Ruto’s involvement in orchestrating these abductions.

Muturi’s claim has added fuel to ongoing accusations that the current administration has been using unlawful means to silence its critics and instill fear in the public.

Musyoka joined the fray, accusing Ruto of commanding a covert and unconstitutional operation targeting citizens.

He emphasized that if even the Attorney General cannot receive answers regarding his own family’s abduction, it raises alarm about the rule of law and the safety of ordinary Kenyans, adding that Ruto’s actions betray the oath of office he swore to uphold under the Constitution.

“The revelations by Secretary Muturi on the identity of the Commander-in-Chief of the Abduction Squads are telling. If the Attorney General cannot get answers, who can?” Musyoka questioned,

He further criticized the Kenya Kwanza administration for allegedly establishing parallel security structures outside the constitutional framework, enabling illegal operations, calling Ruto’s leadership a “dictatorship” and warned that the public would not tolerate such actions.

In response to these developments, Musyoka demanded the immediate release of all remaining victims of abduction, called for a firm affirmation that such illegal operations would cease, and warned that President Ruto must uphold the Constitution or step down.

“This disgraceful attempt to return us to the dark days of fear and oppression will not stand. We will lead from the front in defending the rights of Kenyans,” he vowed.

The party leader also took a firm stance on the ongoing constitutional crisis, particularly regarding the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), asserting that Ruto’s actions and those of his associates risk manipulating the 2027 General Elections.

He reiterated Wiper’s commitment to holding the government accountable, with a wait for a key court judgment on Tuesday next week to guide their next steps.

Lastly, he announced the expulsion of Farah Maalim from the Wiper Democratic Movement for violating party principles and the Constitution, adding further fuel to the ongoing political firestorm.

The claims by Musyoka and Muturi are likely to intensify political tensions in the country, as both government critics and supporters await further developments on the abduction issue and other key constitutional matters.
