In a significant diplomatic move, Principal Secretary of Foreign Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Abraham Korir SingOei, addressed the evolving Kenya-Haiti diplomatic relations and the country’s commitment to the Africa4Haiti initiative. Speaking at a press briefing, SingOei outlined the strategic importance of Kenya’s involvement in Haiti, the historical significance of Haiti to the African Liberation Movement, and the ambitious aims of the Africa4Haiti initiative.
He highlighted the progress in Kenya-Haiti diplomatic relations, emphasizing Kenya’s commitment to fostering strong ties with the Caribbean nation. He noted that Kenya has been actively engaging with Haiti through various diplomatic channels and missions, particularly through the MSS (Mission for Security and Stability) initiative. This mission aims to support Haiti in achieving lasting peace, security, and stability, leveraging Kenya’s experience in peacekeeping and conflict resolution.
Explaining Kenya’s strategic focus on Haiti, SingOei pointed out Haiti’s unique position as a symbol of resilience and freedom. “Haiti, as the first independent Black republic, holds a special place in the history of the African diaspora and the broader fight for freedom and equality, noting that Kenya engagement with Haiti is not only a diplomatic imperative but also a moral and historical duty.
He further delved into Haiti’s historical significance, tracing its roots back to the successful slave rebellion that led to its independence in 1804 by highlighting how Haiti’s struggle and victory inspired liberation movements across Africa and the world.
“Haiti’s story is a testament to the unyielding spirit of freedom and justice,It has inspired countless liberation movements across Africa, and our solidarity with Haiti is a reaffirmation of our shared history and struggles.” SingOei remarked
The Africa4Haiti initiative, as outlined by the government , aims to deepen the ties between Africa and Haiti through cultural exchange, economic cooperation, and humanitarian support. The initiative seeks to promote mutual understanding, support sustainable development, and enhance cultural ties. Key objectives include providing educational and economic opportunities, fostering cultural exchanges, and supporting Haiti in its developmental goals.
The Harmony4Haiti Concert and Cultural Festival, a highlight of the Africa4Haiti initiative, will serve as a vibrant platform to celebrate and strengthen the cultural bonds between Africa and Haiti. SingOei detailed the festival’s activities, which will include musical performances, art exhibitions, cultural showcases, and dialogues on shared histories and future collaborations. “The Harmony4Haiti festival will be a celebration of our shared heritage and a catalyst for deeper cultural and diplomatic ties,” he said.
