The 4th edition of the Kenya Flower Festival kicked off in vibrant fashion highlighting the immense contributions of Kenya’s floriculture industry. Held in Nairobi, this year’s festival drew industry stakeholders, enthusiasts, and the public to a grand celebration of Kenya’s world-renowned flower sector.
The Chief guest of the event Henriette Geiger, the European Union Ambassador to Kenya, graced the opening ceremony alongside key players from the flower industry and in her opening speech, she lauded Kenya for its leadership in floriculture.
“The country plays a significant role as one of the world’s top flower exporters, and therefore the importance of sustainable practices in the industry, a key focus of the 2024 festival.” Geiger emphasized.
In her remarks , Rosemary Kimunya Founder Kenya Flower Festival noted that KFF was founded with a clear vision, to promote a culture of appreciation for the incredible diversity and beauty of Kenyan flowers.
“As many of you know, our country produces some of the finest flowers in the world. We are the 4th biggest exporter of cut flowers in the World. In fact, 40% of all roses sold in the European Union are sourced from Kenya. The floriculture sector is also the country’s top foreign exchange earner, making it a cornerstone of international trade. Moreover, Kenyan flowers are sold across 60 destinations.” Said Kimunya
Representing Imani flowers at the Kenya Flower Festival , Mr. Roy Gachoki Managing Director, said that Imani flowers is passionate about helping women with cancer and supporting campaigns whose objective is to help in early cancer detection.
This year’s event showcased not only the beauty of Kenya’s diverse flower species but also the innovation and eco-friendly approaches that the industry is adopting to maintain its global competitive edge. Various exhibitors, including florists, growers, and floral designers, showcased cutting-edge techniques in flower cultivation, preservation, and floral artistry.
The Kenya Flower Festival continues to position Kenya as a global leader in floriculture while promoting sustainable practices that preserve both the environment and the country’s rich floral heritage.
