Qualifying taxpayers with outstanding obligations up to December 2025 have until the end of the year to settle principal arrears

The Kenya Revenue Authority yesterday announced a full waiver of interest, penalties and fines on qualifying tax debts accumulated up to December 31, 2025, giving taxpayers until December 31, 2026 to clear their principal obligations without additional charges.
The amnesty is among the more significant relief measures the taxman has extended to individuals and businesses in recent years. For taxpayers carrying long-standing arrears, the waiver eliminates what are often the most punishing elements of a tax debt β the compounding interest and accumulated penalties that can, over time, dwarf the original obligation and place settlement permanently out of reach.
KRA has in recent years intensified its compliance drive as the government pursues more ambitious revenue targets. The amnesty represents a tactical shift: rather than pursuing every shilling through enforcement, the authority is offering a clean exit to those willing to settle voluntarily before the year closes.
Taxpayers with qualifying debts would do well to act early. The December 31 deadline is firm, and the window, though generous in scope, will not remain open indefinitely. For businesses and individuals alike, settling now β without the burden of penalties β is a considerably better outcome than facing enforcement later with those charges restored.
The offer is real. The deadline is not.
