Kenya National Qualifications Authority Unveils Strategic Plan 2023-2027

The Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) has officially launched its Strategic Plan for 2023-2027, setting the stage for transformative changes in the country’s educational and vocational landscape. The event, held today in Nairobi, was attended by key stakeholders from the education sector, government officials, and representatives from various educational institutions.
The Strategic Plan 2023-2027 outlines the KNQA’s vision to enhance the quality, relevance, and accessibility of qualifications in Kenya. It aims to create a robust and internationally recognized qualifications framework that will facilitate better recognition of skills and competencies acquired by learners and workers alike.
In her keynote address PS State Department for TVET Dr. Esther Muoria representing the Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu, lauded the KNQA for its forward-thinking approach and commitment to enhancing the country’s education system. “The launch of this strategic plan is a significant milestone for Kenya. It will not only enhance the quality of our education and training but also ensure that our graduates are well-prepared to compete in the global job market,” Muoria stated.
The plan focuses on several key areas:
Standardization and Quality Assurance: Enhancing the quality assurance mechanisms to ensure that all qualifications meet the required standards.
Recognition and Equivalency: Improving processes for the recognition and equivalency of foreign qualifications, making it easier for individuals to use their qualifications across borders.
Stakeholder Engagement: Strengthening partnerships with stakeholders, including industry players, educational institutions, and government agencies, to ensure that the qualifications framework meets the needs of the economy and society.
Capacity Building: Investing in capacity building for institutions and personnel involved in the development and management of qualifications.
Technological Integration: Leveraging technology to improve the management and accessibility of qualifications data and information.
In her address, Dr. Alice Kande, The director General of KNQA, emphasized the importance of the strategic plan in aligning Kenya’s qualifications system with global standards. “This plan is a critical roadmap for our efforts to ensure that the qualifications awarded in Kenya are credible, comparable, and globally competitive. It is designed to address the current gaps and future needs of our education and training systems,” she said.
The strategic plan also highlights the KNQA’s commitment to supporting lifelong learning and promoting the recognition of prior learning. This initiative aims to provide opportunities for individuals to have their informal and non-formal learning experiences recognized and certified.
As the KNQA embarks on the implementation of this ambitious plan, it calls on all stakeholders to collaborate and support its efforts to create a more cohesive and inclusive qualifications framework. The successful execution of the Strategic Plan 2023-2027 is expected to significantly contribute to Kenya’s socio-economic development by ensuring a well-qualified and competent workforce.
