Kenya has proved to the entire world that indeed it can produce legends. Focusing on the world of sports, the country has raised numerous personalities who have shined in the field of sports. Eliud Kipchoge a Kenyan citizen has many times without number won long distance races globally. Recently, the double Olympic champion lowered his own world record by a massive 30 seconds at his 5th Berlin marathon on Sunday 25th September 2022. He shattered his own world record with a time of 2:01:09 to win the Berlin Marathon. His previous best in an official 42.2KM race was 2:01:39 set on the same course in 2018.
Another commented figure is David Rudisha, who left Kenyans amazed when he broke the world record in the 800m men in London in the year 2012.He had won many competitions before. This important people in the Kenyan society have in a huge way marketed our country Kenya. They have won Kenya gold , silver and bronze thus putting a positive impact to our reputation as a nation.
The same applies in the world of football. Michael Olunga, Victor Wanyama and MacDonald Mariga have done us proud. Michael Olunga currently plays at Al Duhail football club in Qatar and is among the top scorers in their league. He has managed to win trophies in the respective teams he has played for among them, the Stas league trophy, Emir cup trophy and Qatar cup trophy.
Victor Wanyama on the other hand has made Kenya shine in the famous English Premier League when he did play for Southampton in 2013/2014 and Tottenham Hotspur in 2016/2017.
MacDonald Mariga, a brother to Victor Wanyama made history as the first Kenyan footballer to play in the UEFA champions league, for Internazionale football club on 16th March 2010.
Taking a close look at the success we share as a nation because of our sports legends,we simply can perceive what Kenya can produce in the near future if the talents among the Kenyan youths are realized, harnessed and put into practice. The government should therefore work closely with the ministry of sports, Culture and Heritage to make Kenya a world class country in the world of sports.
