Kenya is set to host 54 African Trade ministers meeting for the second time in just over a month.
This reaffirms Nairobiโs position as the leading choice venue for Africa’s Trade and Investment Conversation.
The two day meeting is scheduled to take place on Wednesday and Thursday next week under the auspices of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
It will be jointly hosted by the Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry (MITI) of Kenya and the Secretary-General of AfCFTA, Mr. Wamkele Mene.
The 54 Trade Ministers meeting is an essential gathering that brings together trade ministers from across Africa to discuss and negotiate crucial trade-related matters and it will be building upon the momentum generated by the previous meeting held in May.
The upcoming meeting also aims to solidify the progress made in advancing regional trade integration.
During the last meeting, key agreements were reached, including the establishment of the Africa Trade & Investment Promotion Agency (ATiPA). Recognizing Kenya’s commitment to promoting trade and investment across the continent, Kenya offered to host the headquarters of ATiPA.
This milestone decision showcases Kenya’s dedication in fostering economic growth and prosperity for Africa as a whole.
Among the objectives of the meeting will be focusing on critical topics such as the rules of origin for textiles and automobiles, as well as the ever-evolving domain of digital trade.
These discussions are of paramount importance to facilitate seamless intra-African trade and create a conducive environment for businesses to thrive across borders.
The meeting represents a significant opportunity for African nations to collaborate, strengthen regional integration efforts, and advance the economic prosperity of the continent. Kenya, in partnership with AfCFTA, is committed to fostering an environment conducive to robust trade relationships and sustainable economic development.
The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is a landmark agreement targetting 54 African countries with the aim of creating the world’s largest single market.
It seeks to promote economic integration, enhance competitiveness, and foster sustainable development across the African continent.
