Two Kenyans have received one of the top honours bestowed to scouting movement members by the American government.
Othaya Constituency born Antony Gitonga received the award last week in Orlando, Florida in United States of America during a colourful ceremony, attended and watched by thousands of people across the world.
Gitonga who is the International Scouts Commissioner received the award, courtesy of his contribution to mankind and environment.
He was praised for making great contribution by among other things, assisting the needy and vulnerable in the society as well improving the environment through activities like planting trees and cleaning up streets through his Antony Gitonga Foundation.
He has been carrying out various initiatives in his home Constituency of Othaya.

The Silver World Award is granted by the US Federal Government through the Institution of Scouting America. It is exclusively bestowed upon exceptional International Leaders for their outstanding service and leadership to the youth of the world.
Since the inception of the Award in 1971, only 3 other Kenyans have received the award.
These are the founding president, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta who was awarded in 1973, the second President Daniel Moi in 1981 and Kenya’s Chief Commissioner Victor Radido who received his award alongside Gitonga.
Other notable global leaders to have received the Award include Lady Olave Baden Powell, Haile Selasie and Pope John Paul II.
Upon receiving the award, Gitonga who has declared his interest to serve Othaya people as the next Member of Parliament said, “Scouting is my lifestyle. I thank God for this rare honour and extend my special thanks to all who continue to inspire me to do more for the betterment of community. I owe it to you!.”
