The county government of Kiambu has been urged to own and implement on the alcoholic drink Act by the national government in the fight against second-hand generation drinks, which has proliferated in the county.
According to the Deputy County Commissioner Kiambu Sub-County Titus Macharia while speaking during this year mashujaa day celebrations held at Ting’ang’a primary school grounds in Ting’ang’a ward said that the county government should own up their laws and the national security would come in to compliment in their efforts.

” The members of county assembly makes the laws and there is a comprehensive alcoholic drinks Act in place and county enforcement officers are here to implement the law, we only need to come in and compliment and give back up as national government when there is dire need,” Macharia said.
The DCC called on residents not to offer government officers political gifts as it is not allow under the constitution and the government is capable of funding themselves.
” You will find that there are people offering political gifts. I do not need them. You cannot offer to give water or sodas or bread at a government function which in turn you will need favours. The government has resources to fund their functions,” he said.
He said the donations bring about conflict of interest among leaders and businesses people and that is why they are disallowed by law.
Macharia said that in Kiambu sub-county people living with disabilities has been looked after through economic empowerment where those who applied for equipments have been issued and have started working and putting up businesses.
” Through the disability fund we have issued the PLWDs with tools and equipment to help them start their own businesses as per how they applied for what they need. There is a person who applied to be given goats but later changed and said that they want ducks and they have been supplied and has started his businesses,” he said.
He said that any PLWD who wants to be economically empowered should approach their locality chief so that they can be taken through an application form and fill in their details and indicate what they need and the government will cater for their needs.
He called on the youths to apply for short courses and also enrol for technical courses as there are many opportunities being offered by the government they can take opportunity of.
” Those who did not perform well in high school also have a chance if they apply for courses within the technical institutions in the subcounty as they will get the skills government want to employ them,” he said.
