Worth Noting:
- Let me assume however is reading this is above the courtship age, and now can ask you…”can you date or maybe sleep with a child of two, three, four up to six years when you are in your normal senses” I expect “no” as the answer.
- Now the same applies to teachers of fifties, sixties or maybe forties who have been caught or accused of having sexual relationships with their employers. For this case, employers serve as students. How can a fifty year old teacher sleep with a 13 year old student. Does it not sound against nature?
- My main point here is this, we should be people of doing what our mouths dictate. Some of teachers have lost respect from students simply because they see what you do does not deserve them to give you respect, instead they opt to argue or even beat you
Recently I had secured a chance to teach in one of nearby local school, and the environment in there was not conducive for me to do what I had gone to do there. Teaching. Of course I was entitled to be called a teacher, Mr Wafula. I was also shown a place where I would be sitting in the staffroom. All in all I thank God but generally the place was giving me some forms of stress. Personally I think I have developed this feeling of wanting to talk to my thoughts and books. I love seeing books around me. At that particular point, the only thing I was having was my laptop and a 2021 diary that I had converted to a notebook after failing to stick to daily updating of the daily activities in it.
Aside from that, the main thing that made me restless was the behaviour of my fellow teachers, so to say. Both professional and PTA teachers. If I was to describe them in one word, then it would be immoral. They demographics of the language in there was just out of sense and professionalism. I never imagined that some of them were my teachers and contributed to my life layers due to the fact that they used to give me free professional advices.
It takes me back during my lifetime in high school. The same story applied there. You could not imagine the stories these teachers used to make when alone, especially in staffrooms.70% of the message was just romance, followed by gossip on students and finally how the meal was not well cooked that day and served. Although not all.
Someone would say am insulting my teachers but I think the truth need to be told. Yes lets just call a spade a spade not a big spoon. I have heard many people especially students having these stories of the teachers discussing “out of topic” stories. You could not imagine the same teacher who just left the class after telling you never to say this, saying it himself loudly in the staffroom and other teachers never seem to care. Oh, no, they care because they applaud on such evil remarks.
I think we have now two types of teachers, those in class and those in staffrooms or real life situations. Am sure you have heard of the same teachers insulting these so called slay queens or may be social media influencers on how they use and apply makeup in plethora. Their lifestyle have been raising attention all over no wonder nowadays we have news or maybe titles having “faking lives” in them.
Many say so that these social media influencers and celebs should not fake lives. They say they should live their lives naturally and realistic.
Yeah, it’s nice to live your life in truth, but on what basis. If you know that you eke a living simply by applying mascara after shaving your eyebrows and lashes then sticking with artificial ones, go ahead and do it with perfection. Why am I saying so, we are living in the world full of fakes .We fake a lot either unknowingly or knowingly. We fake in larger perspective and this now serves as the point many people fail to understand. They simply think that faking life only involves having make-ups and living in prestigious and luxurious houses against our means.
Back to teachers in the staffroom. I remember one of them making a remark that was so senseless that she went ahead asking for pardon in an indirect way after coming to her senses that I was a new teacher in the staffroom and also the youngest. So for this case, I was seen as a child who should not have been listening to their discussions.
“Mesh usijali, Sisi huongea ivi, utatuzoea tu” she said. I wondered how I should get used to their choking immoral and irritating confabulations. I wondered if truly they had families at home.
“It’s okay madam, don’t bother, am just fine” I replied back at least to convince her that I was okay with them but in real sense I was just feeling useless in their midst. Their stories had made me feel irrelevant in this world.
Have you ever met a doctor telling you not to smoke and that’s the time you discover from his breath that he is cigarette smoker.
Now this brings me to the ideology of “listen what I tell you, not what I do” Do we really have to follow this notion. Looking deep it deserves to be said by only particular people in their different fields of work. Teachers are not deserved to say or even imagine of it. They should walk the talk. This now serves as my commencing point of the meats and potatoes of me writing this article. In life we should always stick if not observe the principle of walking the talk, in other way doing what we say. A great philosopher once said that our body takes its cue from the brain. And what we think, we talk. Some people say that they can’t advice someone to do something that they themselves can’t execute.
What’s wrong with teachers of today. We preach water and take alcohol. One person said that teachers are the only people in this world that Cain their customers. Its true when you delve and dig deep into it.
It’s so bad that nowadays people have lost their professionalism at work in real life situations. When at work, we live pretending and fake lives.
And somebody may ask why am insisting on teachers. Teaching is one of the small but biggest professionals in the world. You will hear of teachers bragging of producing doctors, pilots etc. Teachers are like our next parents. They are trusted by many people to have their children daily for more than many years. Yes , many years. There have also been claims that it’s better to be cursed by a parent than a teacher.
“Ya mwalimu hushika Sana” you will be told or maybe threatened. Anyway it’s life. We see things differently. Still, teachers are like mentors, they show us the way.
Okay, with all those few remarks, it now qualify the reasons why am emphasizing on teachers.
Let me assume however is reading this is above the courtship age, and now can ask you…”can you date or maybe sleep with a child of two, three, four up to six years when you are in your normal senses” I expect “no” as the answer.
Now the same applies to teachers of fifties, sixties or maybe forties who have been caught or accused of having sexual relationships with their employers. For this case, employers serve as students. How can a fifty year old teacher sleep with a 13 year old student. Does it not sound against nature?
My main point here is this, we should be people of doing what our mouths dictate. Some of teachers have lost respect from students simply because they see what you do does not deserve them to give you respect, instead they opt to argue or even beat you.
And something funny with students is that they share each and every rumour they get. It spreads all over right from class six, to class four and five. Class eight they are used to such and they see it normal teachers sleeping with students. I regret a lot when I covered one of my teachers who was notorious of seducing girls, after he was reported by one of the girls to the school headteacher. I remember arguing strongly that he has never involved in such like behaviour. And something surprisingly I won. I made sure my teacher win.
If we tell students not to be lied by these motorists or bodaboda to engage in sex with them, and we teachers go ahead and do it,I think it won’t be fair.Lets do what is right. Let’s be the real us at work in our normal life situations.
I remember taking to three customer cares. After they had dealt with my problem, I have always lived to ask them this question…”You guys (customer cares) the way you talk, politely, do you really apply that in your real life situations. You just get a person calling you stupid, and all you can say is sorry for that or samahani Kwa Hilo?” No, has always been the answer.
Many tell me that they do so for the sake of job, but in real sense, they are rude and arrogant. They give tit for that. Now am imagining if we could be living in a society where everyone lives their life at work. Polite, respectful and kind. More so time consciousness.
We learn more by seeing than hearing. The moment we see you doing a particular thing, we copy it to our minds and there are high chances of us forgetting what you said. Actions speak louder than words. We have said it so loud that it has lost the taste. Teachers should be the very first people to step on the way after showing it to the students. Students develop more trust on you since you are a doerer. You do your mouth. Your mouth and hands or even legs are the best friends.
What we tell our students in class should be the exact thing we should do out there. The problem is that majority of teachers of today don’t teach from the heart, they teach from work plans. First let’s love our students, then love our work.
