LSK President Charles Kanjama
The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) yesterday reaffirmed its nationwide boycott of court proceedings, saying the action is aimed at defending judicial accountability, the rule of law and the independence of the Judiciary.
Speaking during a press briefing at the Supreme Court in Nairobi, LSK President Charles Kanjama, said the Society would continue pressing for reforms to strengthen public confidence in the administration of justice.
Kanjama was accompanied by Council members Wycliffe Oyoo, Vivian Eyase, Effie Sheila Achieng and LSK Deputy Chief Executive Officer Charles Owiti.
The briefing drew a broad section of the legal fraternity, including Senior Counsel Bar Chair Philip Murgor, Senior Counsel Moses Kurgat, former LSK Presidents Ahmednasir Abdullahi, Nelson Havi, Eric Theuri, and Faith Odhiambo, as well as East Africa Law Society President Ramadhan Abubakar. LSK Nairobi Branch Chair Eric Kivuva and other advocates also attended.
The Society urged advocates across the country to remain united in the boycott, describing it as part of a wider effort to safeguard an independent, accountable and credible Judiciary.
The boycott comes amid growing concerns within the legal profession over judicial governance and accountability, with the LSK maintaining that protecting the integrity and independence of the courts is essential to upholding constitutionalism and public trust in Kenya’s justice system.
