A man who brutally, severally slashed his mother to death has been arrested even after having been mysteriously released on his voluntary walk-in into the police station less than an hour of committing the heinous crime.
The homicide was occasioned by a deep rooted family feud after the mother threatened to sell her piece of land and that of her deceased son who is reported to have been murdered several years ago in Meru County.
The suspect is said to have been infuriated by his mother on Wednesday after she destroyed his coffee trees to give vacant position of the land.
The incident occurred in Karuku village, Mukuure ward in Ndia constituency.
According to a villager who sought anonymity, the family has been bogged by feuds and mysterious deaths that has left the family without at least six members.
On reporting the death threat by the deceased to the area Assistant Chief, she was referred to the Chief who had promised to address the issue, but it was not to be.
Another neighbour had advised the woman to spend the night at her (neighbour’s) home, an offer she declined only to meet her grissly death hours later.
The suspect reported to the Kiania Police Station but strangely, an officer asked him to go back home.
He was only arrested after a vernacular radio station aired the story on Friday morning.
Tension was high at the police station as fears were rife that repercussions would follow after the reported release of the suspect.
